Post-mortem of trips seem to be what I like to do now. Afterall, I can no longer travel as often and as far away as I want now. The latest trip to Shanghai was certainly one unusual one and I have my hubby and family to thank to make this possible for me. So, here I am with my top 5 of 上海. A place that I really find unforgettable.
Since my trip last year. I have been missing food from Shanghai a lot. What’s more enjoyable than having my fellow food-loving traveling companions? This time round, thanks to my bestie’s generosity, our food galore was simply….unforgettable.
Two. Sights and scenes
To be very honest, this trip, I wasn’t too into the sight-seeing. But we did manage to go to some pretty interesting places. The match-making sessions, or rather, ‘kids’ promoting sight in Ren Ming Park was quite an eye-opener. We had a pretty fun time trying to find ‘husbands’ for our friends. We also visited 田子纺, a place which has beautifully married the old and the new. I love buildings and I simply love the interesting old houses of Shanghai there.
I shall let the pictures do the talking…For someone who is a big big crazy nut over anything vintage and old, Shanghai is a big big gem! Disclaimer” some of the items do not belong to me. They are my bestie’s. Quite easy to guess what’s hers actually 🙂
Four. The adventures and experiences
I have always felt that cab rides in Hong Kong and Shanghai are exciting. This time round, I also had my fair share of cab rides. But I have to say, it felt safer in the cabs and even when crossing roads.
Another experience worth mentioning was our first foray into Korean Style Spa. We (probably me the most) were pretty traumatised by the sight in the changing room. Basically privacy is ZERO there and gosh, Shanghainese women are that confident of themselves. They will just check-in, go to locker, strip, walk to the bath which was at least 50 metres away, walk out, naked, dry themselves using the small towel and walk back, naked too, to their lockers, change then walk out for the services. To me, it was definitely a R-rating. Imagine this was our first stop upon touching down….Nonetheless, the massage and the whole ‘sit-there-and-waste-life-away’ idea were pretty fun.
This trip was a little unique, as we had an incident. Miss PR lost her phone in Yuyuan and we had our first encounter with the famous 公安叔叔(Police). It would be funnier to hear from us first hand. But we will always remember this little incident as it was the first time we sat in a police van, meant for suspects. Thankfully, all went ok and for some weird reason, this incident brought the 4 of us closer than before.
Five. The four of us
The four of us became a ‘group’ under an unusual circumstance. Basically, Miss K and Miss PR were my JC classmates and Miss S was my uni mate. I couldn’t rem how we even got started. But we have become very good friends for 10 over years. Honestly, for people who first meet us would find us a very odd combination and given our personalities, we should have been frenemies instead of good friends. This was the first time I travelled with them. Really, I was pretty apprehensive. For Miss S, I wasn’t worried. Afterall, we ‘cohabited’ in uni hostel before and our personalities are the closest. However, this Shanghai trip made me see a very different side of everyone – the strength, the vulnerability, the care and the concern. I am just thankful that we made this trip possible just when I am starting to doubt certain things. It made us closer than before and learnt to appreciate each other more. I always believe that true friends are those whom you have endless to talk about despite not meeting all the time, they are such friends to me. The shopping, eating and touring in Shanghai just made me miss our good ol’ times tai-tai-ing our weekends. away in Orchard. I guess we have all moved on in our individual lives but everything just goes back to before once we are put together.
Thank you ladies…… for being who you are. Till the next trip…………….
